The 40-unit Townsville Youth Foyer was officially opened by the Queensland Government on Wednesday 10 July 2024.

Young people aged between 16 and 25 who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness now have a safe place to stay, with 24/7 wraparound support provided by Mission Australia.

Residents also need to be committed to engage in education and training  to develop the skills needed to achieve independence. Some of these skills include budgeting to manage living costs and how to look after a rental property.

Townsville Youth Foyer has already welcomed its first residents, joining others who are living, thriving and opening opportunities in youth foyers in Logan and on the Gold Coast.

Under the Queensland Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan, another eight youth foyers will be delivered across Queensland, including in Cairns, Mackay, Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay with further work to be done to identify five more sites across the state.
