Cyber Security is everyone’s business

Cyber Security Awareness Month 2024 is fast approaching in October. The national theme is ‘Cyber Security is everyone’s business’.

Cyber Security Awareness Month is our annual reminder and chance to reflect and focus on actionable cyber improvements we can all make to our daily habits.

As the Queensland Government Chief Information Security Officer, I often reflect on this theme. We have cyber security and IT teams that usually work in the background to help secure our systems. However, nothing is 100 percent secure, and we need defences on every possible level.

This is where every single person… yes that includes you, is important to help secure our digital interactions.

What will happen during October?

During October, the Queensland Government Cyber Security Unit will release weekly articles via our new Cyber Security Home Page.

The four topics to be covered during October align with the Australian Signals Directorate, Australian Cyber Security Centre’s theme of ‘Cyber Security is everyone’s business’:

  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA)
  • Install software update
  • Use strong, unique passphrases
  • Recognise and report phishing

What action can I take?

I encourage you visit the Cyber Security Home Page each week during October, to engage with the free content and find out how you can change your daily habits to improve your cyber security.

Start a conversation with your team, include details in your weekly team meeting and talk to your family about these topics.

Register for the free webinar to get started and take part:

By including everyone in the discussion, we spread the message that protecting yourself online doesn’t have to be hard. There are simple things you, your family, friends, and colleagues can do to improve cyber security.
