Satellite hospitals
The Satellite Hospital Program (SHP) is delivering seven new facilities to support public healthcare delivery in southeast Queensland.
Each satellite hospital will have a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic with medical imaging and diagnostic services.
The clinic will provide walk in, urgent care for illnesses and injuries not anticipated to be life-threatening in nature, such as simple fractures, simple infections, toothache, minor burns and minor head injuries.
The satellite hospitals will offer additional referral-based outpatient services, such as mental health support, kidney dialysis and a range of medical and allied health specialty clinics, based on the specific needs of their local communities.
Outpatient services are those that can be delivered without the need to be admitted to a hospital.
Satellite hospitals have been built in major growth areas to allow people to access healthcare services in a purpose-built community setting, closer to home, without having to travel to a major hospital’s emergency department.
Locations
Each site will be co-named with a locally relevant traditional name (if it doesn't already use one), following consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
