Help for victims who were injured when visiting Queensland

Victim Assist may be able to help if you have been injured by a crime that happened in Queensland, Australia.

You may have been injured in the street, at a club, at home, at work, at school or at university by someone you know or a stranger. We are sorry that this has happened to you, and we want to help you recover.

It does not matter where you normally live or where you are from. If someone injured you in our state, the Queensland Government can help you.

How we can help you

Victim Assist can help you find a support service that is right for you.

We may also provide financial assistance to help you recover including:

  • paying for you to go to a doctor or counsellor
  • reimbursing you for lost wages if you had to take time off work due to the violence

Reporting rules

Reporting the crime

The crime must be reported for you to be eligible for financial assistance. In most cases, you will need to report the crime to the Queensland Police.

Reporting the injuries

As well as reporting the crime, you should talk to a doctor about your injuries. You should ask for a medical certificate from your doctor—we may need this to assess your application.

If you need help from an interpreter to speak with us, please tell us and we will organise one for you.

If you do not live in Australia and you want to talk to us, you can email VictimAssist@justice.qld.gov.au. If you are eligible, you can complete a paper application form and email it to us.
